About the country

The Republic of Seychelles is located in the Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar, and consists of 115 islands. Culturally, Seychelles is a mix of ethic strains, African slaves as well as numerous Indian and Chinese immigrants who today form the well-integrated Seychellois society. Seychelles is one of the smallest independent countries in the world.

The official languages in Seychelles are English, French and Creole. English is the administrative language, and Creole is often spoken amongst the locals.

About the economy in Seychelles

International Business Authority (SIBA ) in the Seychelles was established in 1995, and therefore become an emerging International Business Services Centre.

The legal system in the country is based on English Common Law, French Civil Law and Local Statute and custom.

The main industry on the island is tourism. The International Airport on Mahe, which today receives all international planes and visitors was initially built by the British. The islands agriculture no longer supports the entire expanding population. Copra, tobacco, cinnamon, vanilla & coconuts are grown for export while other exports include fish, guano and re-exported petroleum products.
